About MTSU and the Jones College of Business

Jennings A. Jones College of Business

MTSU’s Jennings A. Jones College of Business, known for national prominence and regional dominance, is the No. 1 business school serving one of the nation’s hottest economic areas. Jones College fuels the region’s economy, with more than 18,000 alumni working in greater Nashville and middle Tennessee today. Forbes lists the Nashville-Murfreesboro-Franklin metropolitan area as No. 3 for Best Big Cities for Jobs, with UBS, Amazon, and Nissan among corporations recently relocating major business centers to the region.

Jones College ranks in the top 1.5% of the business colleges in the world, accredited in both business and accounting by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Our faculty of award-winning educators, researchers and, in many cases, entrepreneurs provide students with cutting-edge education in management, finance, big data tools, and business communication.

Jones College offers a combination of extensive resources and individual attention that’s unparalleled in the region. Programs rank among and above top-tiered schools around the U.S., including No. 17 nationally for aspiring entrepreneurs by LendEDU; No. 21 in the country for our M.S. in Management (behind only Duke in the eight states bordering Tennessee) by Top Management Degrees; and 34th-best Online Master’s in Finance by OnlineMasters.com. Our graduates work in senior positions at firms such as Deloitte, HCA, Caterpillar Financial, The Hershey Co., Nissan North America, PepsiCo, and State Farm. We partner with large and small businesses alike for job-ready experiences like internships, placements after graduation, research, and continuing executive education.

Jones College has awarded the M.B.A. since 1969, first gained AACSB accreditation for undergraduate programs in 1977, and then earned accreditation for its graduate programs in 1983. Under the leadership of Dean David J. Urban since 2013, Jones College has renewed its dedication to preparing leaders for tomorrow’s workplaces. Key initiatives have included a range of flexible options for M.B.A. students, a strong focus on analytics expertise, and an emphasis on building soft skills. Other improvements were completed recently, such as the modernized Mel Adams State Farm Agents Sales Lab, a redesigned Financial Analysis Center, an updated Computer Lab, and the new Executive Education Center.

Middle Tennessee State University

Middle Tennessee State University is the largest university serving the booming Nashville region, a business, healthcare, and music hub. One in five degreed workers in the greater Nashville area is an MTSU alumnus, making us the No. 1 provider to the region’s workforce and the largest alumni network in middle Tennessee. Located in Murfreesboro, 30 miles from the state capital, MTSU is a Carnegie Research Doctoral University that boasts over 300 undergraduate and graduate programs from the bachelor’s level to doctorates. Nearly 1,000 educators and scholars serve the more than 21,000 students who choose True Blue.

Many MTSU degrees are ranked among the truly best programs in the nation, from accounting to aerospace to animation, concrete industry to horse science, and industrial-organizational psychology to music business and recording. Our alumni run companies. They win Grammys. They teach our children. They cure diseases. They create, innovate, and succeed. At MTSU, we develop degrees to address our partners’ industry needs, adding majors in mechatronics engineering, fermentation science, tourism and hospitality management, unmanned aircraft, and (the pending) data science. From agriculture to finance to healthcare, our grads are ready to work and are in demand by such organizations as Google, Bridgestone, FedEx, Southwest, Belk, Disney, Boeing, and the U.S. Secret Service.

We’ve completed almost $1 billion in recent construction on our beautiful 500-acre campus at MTSU, including the $147 million Science Corridor of Innovation featuring our 250,000-square-foot Science Building. Our students get access to the newest equipment and labs; hands-on learning in and out of the classroom; and research opportunities as an undergrad that are often only available to graduate students elsewhere. As the No. 1 choice of adult learners, transfer students, and military veterans in Tennessee, MTSU offers a unique combination of world-class education, personal attention, and value.
